Our Current Staff:

Josh Peterson (Ensemble Director): Josh has been involved in the marching arts as a performer, instructor, and administrator for more than 15 years. His drum corps experience started in 2003 as a member of the Vanguard Cadets, and he aged out of the activity in 2006 with the Santa Clara Vanguard. While marching, he was fortunate enough to learn from several drum line innovators, including Mike Jackson and Murray Gusseck. After aging out, Josh taught the Vanguard Cadets, and he helped the group win the Open Class World Championship and a High Drums title in 2008. Josh has also taught at several high schools in the California Bay Area and in Washington state. Currently, Josh is the director of the Boys & Girls Club Music & Arts Center in Kennewick. He also teaches the Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps, and he teaches percussion at Kennewick High School.

Matt Hahn (Front Ensemble Arranger & Sound Designer): Matt Hahn is an active designer and percussion educator in the Dayton, OH area. He is currently the program coordinator, music designer, and assistant director of the Lebanon High School marching band and indoor percussion ensemble from Lebanon, OH. In 2012, Matt founded Resonant Music Design, a company specializing in marching arts design and education of all kinds. Matt was a member of Rhythm X from 2005 – 2008 and was a staff member from 2009 – 2015. Matt also was a member of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps from 2006 – 2007 in the front ensemble, and was a staff member from 2009 – 2012. Matt graduated from Miami University (OH) in 2008 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Music Education degree. In 2013, Matt was elected to the Board of Directors of the Mid East Performance Association (MEPA) circuit and was recently elected as Vice President of Percussion for the circuit. Matt is a proud sponsor of Innovative Percussion, Sabian Cymbals, and Evans/Planet Waves products. He currently lives in Kettering, OH with his wife Sara and his son Micah.

Kade McKeever (Battery Caption Head): Kade is a charter
member of IMPACT, playing tenors for the group during its first year. He then went on to start teaching the drum line in year two. Kade also currently teaches percussion at Kennewick High School. He has also taught at Richland High School and Hanford High School. Kade marched tenors with the Columbians in its first year and moved on to playing bass drum with the Oregon Crusaders in 2014 and 2015 and Oregon Crusaders Indoor in 2016.

Tyler Figueroa (Front Ensemble Caption Head): Tyler started out playing marimba for IMPACT Percussion during its first year, and then went on to start teaching the front ensemble in year two. Currently, Tyler is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in History at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. He is also a member of the university’s marching band. Tyler has taught at Kennewick High School and Pasco High School, and he was a member of the Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps front ensemble for four years.

Eliud Ayala (Snare & Tenor Technician): Eliud teaches percussion at Pasco High School, and he is the Battery Coordinator for the Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps – two positions he has held for several years. Eliud is also inspiring younger generations to get excited about percussion, as he currently teaches middle school music at Stevens Middle School in Pasco. Before he started teaching, Eliud marched snare drum with the Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps in 2010.

Jesus Garcia (Tenor Technician & Drum Set Specialist): Jesus has more than 30 years of drumming and teaching experience in the California Bay Area. In 2011, Jesus was one of the top four finalists in the country for Guitar Center’s Drum Off competition in Los Angeles. Jesus has also toured and performed in Europe and throughout the United States with his band, T Clemente Band. He also marched with the San Jose State University Marching Band for several years, playing tenors and snare drum. In addition to performing, Jesus has also taught drum lines at several high schools throughout the Bay Area, and he has given many educational clinics on drum set.

Michael Girard (Snare Technician): Michael was born and raised in Kennewick, WA and graduated from Kamiakin High School in 2004. After marching with the Seattle Cascades in 2003 as a member of the horn line, he spent the rest of his DCI career playing snare drum. He marched snare with the Seattle Cascades 2004, Esperanza in 2005, and with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2006 and 2007.  Michael also marched 2005-06 Momentum Indoor Percussion. Michael has taught at at Gilbert and Mesquite High Schools in Gilbert, Arizona and Casa Grande High School in Casa Grande, Arizona. Michael also taught at Mission Viejo High School from 2007 – 2009, winning a silver medal at WGI Finals among several top five finishes. He was also on staff at Los Alamitos High School for the school’s first WGI finals placement. Michael is currently finishing his PhD in physics at UC Berkeley. He lives in Fremont, CA with his wife Danielle, his son Will, and his Chihuahua Josie.

Jackson Lai (Front Ensemble Technician): Jackson is a music educator based in Southern California teaching at multiple high schools and a community college. He has also been a front ensemble instructor for the Vanguard Cadets since 2015. Drum corps experience includes two summers with the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets in 2011 and 2012 and three winters with the Pulse Percussion Organization from 2011-2013. Jackson received his B.M. in Instrumental Music Education from California State University, Long Beach and studied percussion under Raynor Carroll and Dr. Dave Gerhart. He is currently working on his M.A. in Education and his Single Subject Teaching Credential.

Matt Lennon (Cymbal Technician): Matt currently works as a music therapist in Long Beach, CA. Before working in music therapy, Matt marched cymbals with Vanguard Winter Percussion during the ensemble’s first year in existence, and he was a member of the Vanguard Cadets front ensemble in 2012. Matt has also taught percussion at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale, CA, and he helped create a winter percussion program at Columbia Middle School also in Sunnyvale.

Abe Martinez (Snare Technician): Abe started out playing snare drum for IMPACT Percussion during its first year, and then went on to start teaching the drum line in year two. Abe also teaches percussion at Kamiakin High School. Abe marched snare drum with Oregon Crusaders Indoor in 2016, and he also marched snare drum with the Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps and Spokane Thunder.

Dillon Miller (Visual Technician): Dillon is a native of Southern California who attended Eastern Washington University as a Music Education Major. Always an advocate for and an avid appreciator of the marching arts, Dillon now serves as the Band Director at Enterprise Middle School in West Richland, WA. In his spare time, Dillon is a visual designer and an instructor for the Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps, where he has worked since the corps’ inception in 2013. Dillon has written drill for several area schools, including Kiona-Benton, Kennewick, Kamiakan, Bonney Lake, Hanford, Sumner and Chiawana High Schools. He also once served a term as the Band Director at Kennewick High School. Dillon is happily married to his amazing wife Megan, and enjoys hanging out with his son Easton and is excited to be welcoming a daughter to the world shortly. In a past life, Dillon spent several years marching DCI, and was a member of the 2007 DCI World Champion Blue Devils. Dillon is looking forward to working with IMPACT Percussion, as the group’s staff and members have been an inspiration to him for the past several years.

Emmanuel Olaiya (Snare & Tenor Technician): Emmanuel was a member of the Seattle Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps from 2005 – 2007, and he marched snare drum with the Academy Drum & Bugle Corps in 2008 and 2010. He then spent the summer of 2011 working with the Cascades. Emmanuel graduated from Washington State University in 2012 with a degree in Anthropology. While at WSU, Emmanuel was a part of the college’s drum line, and he served as the section leader for two years. Emmanuel has also taught at Hanford High School, Richland High School, Kamiakin High School, and Bonney Lake High School. He is currently teaching at Sumner High School, and he teaches the drum line at the Columbians.

Chase Waller (Bass Technician): Chase is currently the Percussion Caption Head at Richland High School in Richland, WA. Chase has also taught percussion at Chiawana High School, Kennewick High School, and Hanford High School. Chase has also worked as a bass drum clinician for the University of Washington Day of Marching Percussion. Before he started teaching, Chase marched bass drum with the Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps and the Seattle Cascades.

Ellie Peterson (Visual Consultant): Ellie currently owns and operates her own event design and decor shop on Etsy. She is also a freelance graphic designer, taking on various projects in America and Japan. Before entering the world of graphic design and event decor, Ellie marched bass drum with the Vanguard Cadets in 2003 and 2004, and she aged-out of drum corps playing bass drum with the Santa Clara Vanguard in 2005. After aging out, Ellie also taught percussion at several high schools in California and Washington state.

Brent Steinert (Music Consultant): Brent currently teaches elementary school music at several schools in the Pasco School District. He is also a very active performer, playing trumpet with several ensembles throughout the Tri-Cities region, including the Mid-Columbia Symphony and the Columbia Basin Jazz Orchestra. Before teaching elementary school music, Brent was the band director for five years at Kennewick High School, and he was the band director at Othello High School before that.

Jessica Waller (Fundraising Coordinator): Jessica currently works as a Branch Coordinator for Apria Healthcare in Kennewick, WA. She has spent her most of her life involved with music in one form or another. In high school, she played clarinet for the Jazz and Pep Bands and sang in the choir. Her passion for music also helped lead her to marrying a drummer and she has been involved with the marching arts in many forms ever since. Aside from music, Jessica also enjoys spending time with her two “fur babies” Opie and Dixie, and coming up with great recipes for her smoker grill. She is excited to be working with such a tremendous group and looks forward to helping students achieve their personal and performance goals.

Esteban Zarate (Membership Coordinator): Esteban Zarate is an active brass and visual instructor for Chiawana High School and the Columbians Drum & Bugle Corps. He also performs with the Columbia Basin Jazz OrchestraMilonga (latin band from Spokane), and with other small ensembles in the Tri-Cities area. Esteban previously marched with Spokane Thunder, Blue Knights and aged out with the Cadets. He was also a member of the Columbian Basin College Jazz Band, performing with Andy Martin, Gordon Goodwin, and Paquito D’ Rivera. He has always been an active member of the music community in the Tri-Cities by previously teaching private lessons and being an instructor for marching bands at various high schools.
